World series game 5
Albert Pujols joined Babe Ruth (1926, 1928) and Reggie Jackson (1977) as the only players in baseball history up to that time to hit three home runs in a World Series game. https://fastcarloansonline.com/ (Pablo Sandoval would also accomplish the feat the following year.) Pujols was 5-for-6 with two singles, three HRs, four runs scored, and six RBIs. Yadier Molina added two doubles, driving in four runs. David Freese continued his postseason 13-game hitting streak getting two hits (one double), driving in two runs. Pujols became the first player in World Series history to get hits in four consecutive innings: fourth (single), fifth (single), sixth (HR, three RBIs), and seventh (HR, two RBIs). He tied records for most HRs (3), most hits (5), and most RBIs (6) in a World Series game, and established a new record with 14 total bases. Pujols’ Game 3 performance led to Rangers pitchers walking him three times intentionally in Game 4.
During the World Series, when the number of credentialed media grows significantly, teams are forced to be creative with media seating, creating auxiliary press boxes that are usually situated down the lines. While some in my profession will gripe about this location, I have always kind of enjoyed the different perspective it provided. And on this night, at this epic Game 6 at Busch Stadium, where the makeshift auxiliary press box was similarly situated in the suites overlooking the right-field corner, the sideways sightline turned into a front-row seat for history.
Albert Pujols, who had been hitless through the first two games, then hit a 423 ft (129 m) home run off Alexi Ogando in the sixth inning after a leadoff single and walk to make it 11–6 Cardinals. An error, single and walk loaded the bases before Mike Gonzalez relieved Ogando and allowed a sacrifice fly to Molina. Next inning, Pujols’s two-run home run after a two-out walk off of Gonzalez made it 14–6 Cardinals. The Rangers scored their last run of the game in the bottom of the inning when Beltre hit a leadoff double off of Lynn, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Napoli’s sacrifice fly off of Octavio Dotel.
This Series was only the second time the Rangers and the Cardinals played each other; they met in regular-season interleague play in 2004, when the Cardinals won two of a three-game series in Texas. This was the first World Series assignment for umpires Greg Gibson and Ron Kulpa. Each of the other umpires had previously worked one World Series.
Then 2011 happened. It wasn’t much of a natural rivalry pitting the Cardinals against the Rangers, but the games were so good that none of that mattered. When Pujols hit three home runs in Game 3, I remember being floored at the greatness I was watching. For Game 6, I sat with several of my MLB.com teammates in an auxiliary press box down the right-field line. When Freese’s ninth-inning triple landed, that vantage gave us a point-blank view of the bedlam below.

Faced with injuries, the Dodgers acquired Flaherty, Edman and reliever Michael Kopech ahead of the trade deadline, and all became important cogs in the title run. The additions boosted payroll to $266 million, third behind the Mets and the Yankees, plus a projected $43 million luxury tax.

Game 3 world series
Anthony Volpe delivered the biggest hit for the Yankees this entire series: a grand slam that erased the lead the Dodgers got when Freddie Freeman notched a home run in a record-setting sixth straight World Series game.
Tempted to award this to Clarke Schmidt, who pitched poorly, or Jazz Chisholm, who was frosty on an 0-for-4 night and committed an error, but this is truly a collective accomplishment. In Game 2, the Yankees had one hit in the first eight innings. In Game 3, they had four hits in the first eight innings. These ninth-inning Yankees sure can score, but the games have been decided before then with the Yankees lineup disappearing for extended stretches. The Dodgers took a two-run lead before the home team had a turn to bat Monday night. The game felt over almost before it began.
The baseball season continues! Thanks to a flagging Dodgers bullpen game, a fiery Bronx crowd and a night Anthony Volpe will remember for the rest of his life, the Yankees kept their season alive with an 11-4 win over the Dodgers in Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday.
